Apple has officially begun distributing its iOS 26 update to millions of iPhone devices globally, including older models, not just the recently launched iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro. The free software upgrade introduces several functional enhancements designed to improve user experience and device interaction.
Among the key additions is Hold Assist, a feature that allows automated handling of customer service calls, alerting the user when attention is needed. Another notable update is Call Screening, which answers unknown numbers, queries the caller, and transcribes responses in real-time. Apple has also introduced the Liquid Glass design, giving devices a refined, glossy visual finish.
A notable alteration affects the screenshot workflow. Previously, captured screenshots appeared as a small thumbnail in the corner of the screen, allowing quick editing or sharing. In iOS 26, screenshots now display a full-screen preview by default. Users who wish to save a screenshot without editing must tap twice in the top-right corner or swipe up from the bottom to store it directly in Photos.
For those preferring the previous workflow, Apple allows switching back: navigate to Settings > General > Screen Capture, and turn off Full-Screen Previews to restore the classic thumbnail method.
iOS 26 has modified Safari’s tab navigation. Accessing the full tabs view now requires two taps: first on the bottom-right icon, then All Tabs. Users seeking quicker navigation can swipe up from the URL bar or use gestures such as pinching on the open tab.
Closing multiple tabs has also changed. Options include long-pressing the URL bar, holding down the checkmark in Tabs view, or long-pressing a specific tab to close others. To revert to the previous Safari interface, users can go to Settings > Apps > Safari and switch the Tabs view from Compact to Bottom.
